100% Electronic B/Ls by 2030: The Numbers Behind the Number
On 15 Feb 2023, DCSA members pledged to issue 50% of bills of lading (B/Ls) electronically by 2028 and 100% by 2030, aiming to cut costs and boost global trade.

On 15 February 2023, the Digital Container Shipping Association (DCSA) comprised of nine of the world’s largest container shipping companies announced its commitment to issue 50% of their bills of lading digitally within five years and all B/Ls electronically by 2030.
According figures cited by DCSA, shifting away from the transfer of physical, paper-based B/Ls could save stakeholders about USD 6.5 billion in direct costs and spur USD 30-40 billion in annual global trade growth.
